Research Agenda

The focus of the unit is to develop ground-breaking interpretable probability-based causal machine learning methods for dynamic scenarios and cross-cutting quantum technologies for intelligent systems. Successful application areas include biometrics, computer vision, healthcare, renewable energy, climate, robotics and intelligent vehicles.

Unit Mission

The ELLIS Madrid Unit aims to produce top-tier AI and machine learning research that seamlessly blends theory and applications, yields real-world impact, and garners recognition by publishing in leading venues while fostering collaborations with other renowned institutions. It unites the region’s foremost researchers under a common umbrella to spur collaboration, while also attracting global talent to sustain a vibrant AI and ML community. Finally, it aims to drive technology transfer to the local research and innovation ecosystem by supporting private companies and public institutions with their AI and ML needs, cultivating a new generation of experts, and positioning Madrid as a major hub of AI and ML innovation in Southern Europe.
