The ELLIS Society is a network of scientific excellence comprised of top scientists and researchers working in the field of AI in Europe.
Membership in the ELLIS Society is open to scientists who:
have a PhD or equivalent degree;
regularly publish at these top tier venues in machine learning-driven fields;
work in Europe or have some other relation to Europe.

Nominations: The first step
To start the application process, a nomination message explaining how the candidate scientist meets the above criteria should be sent to membership@ellis.eu. Both self-nominations and nominations by existing ELLIS Members are welcome.
Endorsements
The application needs to be endorsed by two existing members of the ELLIS society who
(a) work in a different country than the candidate and
(b) do not have the same nationality as the candidate.
By endorsing an application, the endorser vouches that the candidate is a strong scientist and their work is relevant to ELLIS. For applications where the candidate is not regularly publishing in the top-tier venues in machine learning driven fields listed here (e.g. because they work in a different field of research), at least one of the endorsers needs to be an ELLIS Fellow. By endorsing the candidate, the Fellow vouches that the candidate publishes in top-tier venues of the candidate’s field of research and their work is relevant to ELLIS. Each application with two endorsements is vetted by the ELLIS membership committee.
The endorsements should be requested beforehand: the applicant needs to ask the endorser to send a brief email supporting the application to membership@ellis.eu. ELLIS will not contact your endorsers on your behalf.
The names of the endorsing members should be included in the application email.
ℹ️ There is no fee for membership in ELLIS.
High-caliber scientists may be appointed as ELLIS Fellows or Scholars through an ELLIS Program or ELLIS Site.
