Become a Member

The ELLIS Society is a network of scientific excellence comprised of top scientists and researchers working in the field of AI in Europe.

Membership in the ELLIS Society is open to scientists who:

  • have a PhD or equivalent degree;

  • regularly publish at the following top tier venues in machine learning-driven fields: NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, JMLR, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, IJCV, PAMI, RSS, CoRL, TRO, IJRR, Science Robotics, ACL, EMNLP, KDD, AAAI, IJCAI, COLT, UAI, AAMAS, AISTATS, TACL, SIGIR, WSDM, Web Conference, ACM FAccT, KDD, SIGGRAPH, ACM Multimedia;

  • work in Europe or have some other relation to Europe.

Application Requirements

  • Fulfillment of the membership requirements:

    1. Have PhD or equivalent degree

    2. Regularly publish at top tier venues in machine learning-driven fields

    3. Work in Europe

  • Endorsement by 2 ELLIS Members

Nominations: The first step

To start the application process, a nomination message explaining how the candidate scientist meets the above criteria should be sent to membership@ellis.eu. Both self-nominations and nominations by existing ELLIS Members are welcome.

Endorsements

The application needs to be endorsed by two existing members of the ELLIS society who

  • (a) work in a different country than the candidate and

  • (b) do not have the same nationality as the candidate.

The endorsements should be requested beforehand: the applicant needs to ask the endorser to send a brief email supporting the application to membership@ellis.eu. ELLIS will not contact your endorsers on your behalf.

The names of the endorsing members should be included in the application email.

High-caliber scientists may be appointed as ELLIS Fellows or Scholars through an ELLIS Program or ELLIS Site.
