Lecture Series in the ELLIS Network
Many of the ELLIS Sites regularly organise distinguished lecture series promoting cutting-edge AI research of renowned experts and giving the audience a chance to ask questions and connect with outstanding researchers.
Lecture series (Co-)Organized by ELLIS Sites
With the Distinguished Speaker Series, ELLIS Alicante invites top AI researchers from around the world to present their work to the team of ELLIS Alicante. In collaboration with the University of Alicante, the event is open to any student and researcher of the university.
The Cambridge ELLIS Unit Seminar Series holds talks by leading researchers in the area of machine learning and AI.
The ELLIS Institute Finland organizes a series of events showcasing outstanding scientists from different stages of their career. Lectures are open for all and can be joined online:
Distinguished Lectures (talks by renowned experts)
Machine Learning Coffee Seminar (weekly seminar)
The ELLIS Unit Heidelberg together with various partners organizes the NCT Data Science Seminar series bringing together thought-leading speakers and researchers in the field of data science to discuss both methodological advances as well as medical applications.
The ELLIS Unit Jena organizes the AI4Good hosted online webinar series "AI for Earth and Sustainability Science". The series highlights seminal and recent progress in AI-enabled modelling and understanding of the Earth system from local to global scale and AI-science based diagnosis, prediction and remedy of environmental crises. The webinar series is curated by the ELLIS Unit Jena and the ELLIS Program “Machine Learning for Earth and Climate Sciences”.
Three talks in June and July, hybrid, addresses the question of how modern machine learning models can be better understood incl. methodological foundations as well as current developments in machine learning.
The Seminar Series sessions take place approximately every other week in a hybrid format, allowing both in-person and virtual participation. They are jointly organized by the EPFL AI Center and the ELLIS Lausanne Unit, and typically focus on recent advances, research discussions, and interdisciplinary topics in artificial intelligence. Sessions may include invited speakers, community discussions, and networking opportunities.
The ELLIS Lisbon & Sardine Lab seminars on Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing, organised jointly by members of the ELLIS Unit Lisbon & the Sardine Lab at Instituto Superior Técnico, aim to provide, on a regular basis, an outlet for discussion of the latest research on Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing by researchers and students from all over the world. The seminars are open to all and streamed online.
ELLIS Unit Manchester hosts a monthly Invited Lecture Series, organised by ELLIS Members Omar Rivasplata & Michele Caprio in conjunction with the Manchester Centre for AI Fundamentals.
The Munich AI Lectures are a joint initiative of the ELLIS Unit Munich, the Munich Center for Machine Learning (MCML), the Munich Data Science Institute (MDSI) at TUM, the Center for Advanced Studies (CAS) at LMU, and the Konrad Zuse School of Excellence in Reliable AI (relAI). On a monthly basis, they invite top-level AI researchers to give the audience a glimpse into their work and the future of AI.
The ELLIS Deep Dive series, organised by the ELLIS Unit Oxford in partnership with the University of Warwick and the Ellison Institute of Technology, offers an in-depth exploration of key areas in ML/AI research, spanning both foundational concepts and recent advances. The sessions are designed to be pedagogical rather than purely research-focused, while also providing opportunities for networking. They are primarily aimed at doctoral students and early-career researchers, as well as participants from research labs and industry partners.
ELLIS Paris co-organizes three major AI seminars across its main cluster locations — Hi!PARIS, PRAIRIE, and SCAI — offering regular scientific exchanges on key advances in the field. The Hi!PARIS AI Seminar Cycle highlights a broad range of topics, with an emphasis on theoretical perspectives spanning areas such as self-supervised learning, computer vision, statistics, machine learning, and large language models. The PRAIRIE-PSAI ENS-PSL Data Science Colloquium gathers researchers from diverse disciplines interested in large scale or high dimensional data. The SCAI HPC for Learning Seminar focuses on the intersection of AI and high-performance computing, covering scalable training, efficient learning methods, accelerator-oriented algorithms, and reproducible inference on modern hardware.
The ELLIS Unit in Stuttgart regularly invites outstanding scientists to present their latest research projects.
The lecture series will take place in an in-person format and will be organised alongside other major events planned this year by ELLIS Unit Warsaw, including MLSS Summer School 2026, PreNeurIPS 2026, and the AI For Mat Workshops. The series will feature invited talks by researchers holding the status of ELLIS Scholar or ELLIS Fellow, covering current topics in machine learning and artificial intelligence. The series is organised in cooperation with the University of Warsaw and Warsaw University of Technology, which co-host ELLIS Unit Warsaw together with the main hosting institution, IDEAS Research Institute.
Additional Formats Promoting Expert Talks
ELLIS PhD & Postdoc Reading Groups
As part of its educational activities, ELLIS aims to connect PhDs and postdocs in the network and supports them in creating opportunities to discuss science. ELLIS Reading Groups are initiated and organized by ELLIS PhD students and postdocs across Europe.
Artificial Intelligence Doctoral Academy (AIDA)
AIDA, the Artificial Intelligence Doctoral Academy, has been created to nurture a new generation of AI talent by offering knowledge and expertise in AI through educational and training activities. It’s a joint initiative of the EU-funded projects ELISE, AI4media, VISION, HUMANE AI and TAILOR. ELLIS Fellows often participate in the AIDA AI Excellence Lecture Series.
