Unit Slovenia

ELLIS Slovenia gathers top Slovenian AI researchers from the Jožef Stefan Institute (JSI), the University of Ljubljana (UL), and the University of Maribor (UM) to advance AI research and innovation in Slovenia, fostering collaboration among top scientists and promoting economic growth, economic impact, and societal good. Our mission is to create a Slovenian multi-centric AI research laboratory gathering AI talent and strengthening research collaborations among the involved Slovenian AI labs, in alignment with ELLIS values and the values promoted by the Slovenian Artificial Intelligence Society (SLAIS). Through ELLIS, Slovenian researchers will be able to contribute to “top-level AI research made in Europe”, strengthening Slovenia and Europe in its competition with top international AI players in the US and China.

The research areas of ELLIS Slovenia cover the topics of the following ELLIS research programs: Human-centric Machine Learning; Machine Learning and Computer Vision; Multimodal Learning Systems; Natural Language Processing; Semantic, Symbolic and Interpretable Machine Learning, Robot Learning; Robust Machine Learning; Machine Learning for Earth and Climate Sciences; and Health.
