Say hi to Catarina Barata, Assistant Professor at ECE Department, Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon & Researcher at Institute for Systems and Robotics 🇵🇹
She’s an ELLIS Scholar and member of the ELLIS Unit Lisbon.
Her area of research covers machine learning applied to computer vision and healthcare data and she says one of the most meaningful achievements has been winning a Google Research Award. She says, “It was my first project grant and an international one, that allowed me to start funding my interdisciplinary collaboration with hospitals and other research centers.”
From her personal experience of having powerful role models, she says people, in particular female students and young girls, need to see more women showing their research and being excited and passionate about it.
