ELLIS Unit Jena: Recap on Winter School 'AI for Earth System, Hazards & Climate Extremes'

From March 16-20, the ELLIS Winter School in Athens on “AI for Earth System, Hazards & Climate Extremes” brought together over 100 MSc, PhD, and postdoctoral researchers at the intersection of AI and Earth sciences. Participants engaged in keynotes, hands-on sessions, and collaborative projects, combining theory with real-world applications.

The program featured 15 leading speakers, including members of the ELLIS Unit Jena, and practical training sessions. Twenty student projects were developed with expert guidance, supported by high-performance computing. The event fostered interdisciplinary exchange, strengthened international collaborations, and built a vibrant community shaping the future of AI for climate and environmental challenges.
