Unit Mission

The ELLIS Unit in Turin advances learning algorithms and systems for safe and secure sensing machines. Our mission is to develop intelligent systems that perceive, learn from experience, adapt over time, and proactively guide data acquisition. The Unit brings together researchers from Politecnico di Torino, Università di Torino, and Fondazione ISI, with a strong focus on machine learning. Research areas include visual and multimodal learning, graph-based and distributed learning, reinforcement learning, AI for safety-critical and complex systems, and in general AI for the advancement of all sciences with the aim of enhancing the safety, efficiency, and trustworthiness of AI systems. We combine foundational research with real-world applications in areas such as cybersecurity, remote sensing, healthcare, and digital humanities, maintaining strong collaborations with industry partners in automotive, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing.
