Unit Modena

The Modena ELLIS unit brings together excellent researchers from three institutions: the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, the University of Florence, and CINECA - the Italian Supercomputing Center. The unit is active in several research areas: computer vision, large-scale AI and multimedia, trustworthy AI, theoretical machine learning, continual learning, health and bioinformatics, all done in connection with several European, National and International research projects.

The Modena ELLIS Unit supports foundational research in machine learning and computer vision at a European level, aiming to collaborate across ELLIS Units through shared resources and infrastructure while fostering multidisciplinary research environments. It also seeks to enhance the impact of industrial research by partnering with industries, creating start-ups, and sharing opportunities through initiatives like the Modena AI Academy. Additionally, the Unit is committed to training new European talents by promoting advanced education programs, facilitating researcher exchanges, and leveraging facilities like CINECA’s Supercomputing Center.
