The ELLIS Unit Hamburg advances machine learning research within the natural sciences and engineering. It extends the network of ELLIS Units to the Hamburg Metropolitan Region of northern Germany.

The ELLIS Unit Hamburg extends the network of ELLIS Units to the Hamburg Metropolitan Region of northern Germany.
The Unit aims to increase Hamburg’s attractiveness as a center for Machine Learning research within the natural sciences and engineering. It will strengthen excellent interdisciplinary and cross-institutional research among the participating institutions and connect to the research programs and units of the ELLIS Society. This will enable us to educate the next generation of innovators, researchers, key employees, and founders.
Building on Hamburg’s excellence in a number of research areas within the natural sciences and engineering, the ELLIS Unit Hamburg focuses on advancing the following scientific areas:
- Foundations of ML
- ML for Cognitive and Cyber-physical Systems
- ML for Climate Science
- ML for Physics
- ML for Biomedical Sciences
