Postdoc position on Foundations for Emergent Deception in Human-AI Interaction at the University of Copenhagen, start in Autumn 2026
Would you like to join our lab as a postdoctoral researcher in autumn 2026? We have an opening on a new project titled “DeceptionWeb: Foundations for Emergent Deception in Human-AI Interaction”, funded by a UCPH Convergence Grant and led by Pepa Atanasova from Computer Science, Ingo Zettler from the Copenhagen Center for Social Data Science and Department of Psychology, and Egor Starkov from Economics.
The project’s goal is to develop a foundational framework for understanding emergent deception in human-AI interaction by bringing together machine learning, behavioural psychology, and economic/game-theoretic perspectives. The postdoc will work at the interface of Natural Language Processing and behavioural psychology, contributing to computational approaches for studying deception in human-AI interaction, controlled experimental settings, and interpretability-based methods for detecting and understanding deceptive behaviour in AI systems.
The position is offered for one year and nine months and is open to candidates with a PhD degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field. The ideal candidate would have an educational background, prior research, or work experience in Natural Language Processing. Experience with interdisciplinary research, experiments with human participants, cognitive/personality/social psychology, or behavioural science is a plus.
The postdoc will be jointly supervised by Pepa Atanasova and Ingo Zettler, and will collaborate with Egor Starkov and the larger interdisciplinary project team, which also includes a second postdoc bridging Economics and Psychology and a student assistant.
Read more about the position and apply by 5 July 2026, 23:59 GMT+1. The start date is 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
