Meet Veronica Nieves, Distinguished Researcher at the University of Valencia 🇪🇸. Her area of research covers AI for predictive analysis of the ocean's role in future climate patterns, its impact on sea levels, and extreme weather events.
She’s an ELLIS Member and says an ongoing goal is to harness AI/ML to improve predictive models of ocean-climate interactions, recognizing that oceans—storing over 90% of the heat trapped by greenhouse gases—are central to understanding and mitigating global (ocean) warming.
Therefore, she says it is crucial to inspire the next generation of women to explore the intersection of AI and ocean climate science, given its potential for meaningful impact.
