Spotlight on Ute Schmid

#WomenInELLIS
Say hello to Ute Schmid, Professor of Cognitive Science at the University of Bamberg πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ and ELLIS Member.

Her research area covers the area of machine learning from relational data, especially inductive programming. She combines interpretable machine learning and deep learning to generate concept-based explanations.

Having worked in AI research since the 90s, her long-term goal is to develop methods for human-AI partnerships for decision making in complex domains such as medicine as well as for code generation.

She wanted to participate in this campaign because she feels it makes women in AI visible as role models and might contribute to encouraging early career women researchers. She says, β€œFor me, it is very important that every person has the chance to detect their talent and inclination and find a profession which is fulfilling.”
