Spotlight on Maria-Esther Vidal
One particularly meaningful achievement for her has been the application of semantic models and inductive learning techniques in medical domains such as Alzheimer’s disease and lung cancer, where AI can support more explainable and knowledge-driven discoveries.
She also says, “Equally important to me has been the mentoring of more than 25 doctoral students and over 200 master’s and bachelor’s students from different countries and disciplines, helping to shape the next generation of researchers.”
Her reasoning for wanting to participate in this campaign comes from her belief that it is meaningful to show that scientific leadership can emerge from diverse backgrounds, disciplines, and cultures, and that collaboration, perseverance, and mentorship play a fundamental role in building successful research communities.
