Spotlight on Kjersti Engan

#WomenInELLIS
Meet Kjersti Engan, Professor at University of Stavanger 🇳🇴 and ELLIS Member. Her research areas are image processing and ML/AI for medical applications; computational pathology, stroke assessment (CT/MR), newborn care (computer vision).

She is particularly proud of her contributions to the field of newborn resuscitation and working towards safer births, through initiatives such as Safer Births (A global research program for saving lives at birth) and NewbornTime (NewbornTime – Improved newborn care based on video and AI) where she focused on applying ML/AI to multimodal sensor data and video.

She wanted to participate in this campaign to be a role model for younger female scientists, showing that it is possible to combine a desire to help and do good with a love for new technology. It is meaningful to me to demonstrate that one can work in AI while actively promoting responsible and green approaches that benefit society.
