Spotlight on Justine Cassell
Sheโs an ELLIS Member and part of the ELLIS Unit Paris.
Her area of research covers drawing on insights from cognitive science (including psychology, linguistics and neuroscience) to implement compelling and useful Embodied Conversational Agents (ECA).
She believes that for the future of AI, we must promote interdisciplinarity, particularly with the cognitive and social sciences, so that the AI work we do is informed by a deep knowledge of human needs, behaviors, and goals.
As an American ๐บ๐ธ living and working in Europe ๐ช๐บ, Justine says, "I would encourage Americans to consider working here because ofย the quality of life - there is more attention paid to spending time with friends, keeping up with cultural events, and cooking or eating out, with no apparent reduction in attention to research!"
And don't miss her advice for young scientists!
