Get to know Gitta Kutyniok, Chair for Mathematical Foundations of AI (Full Professor) at LMU Munich 🇩🇪. She’s an ELLIS Fellow part of the ELLIS Unit Munich and researches mathematically-grouded reliable AI algorithms, energy-effcient AI by co-evolution of soft- and (neuromorphic) hardware, AI-based approaches to inverse problems and PDEs, and applications to medicine and robotics.
A key goal in the field for her is to advance AI through the co-evolution of algorithms and hardware, rather than optimizing either in isolation. She believes this joint design is essential to address core bottlenecks of today’s AI such as reliability and energy consumption, which cannot be solved sustainably by software-only or hardware-only approaches.
