Spotlight on Alessandra Sciutti

Meet Alessandra Sciutti, Senior Researcher, PI at the Italian Institute of Technology 🇮🇹. She’s an ELLIS Scholar part of the ELLIS Unit Genoa researching cognitive robotics and human–robot interaction, with a focus on embodied, social, and predictive mechanisms of interaction.
A defining career achievement for her has been founding and leading the CONTACT unit (COgNiTive Architecture for Collaborative Technologies) at IIT through the ERC Starting Grant wHiSPER (Investigating Human Shared PErception with Robots; https://www.whisperproject.eu). It allowed her to pursue a long-term vision: developing bio-inspired, developmental, embodied, and modular cognitive architectures that integrate AI and machine learning in a principled way.
She said she wanted to take part in this campaign because she appreciates initiatives that help show the variety of backgrounds, gender, and geographical origins within ELLIS, as this reflects well how interdisciplinary and collaborative research actually unfolds.
