Meet the Board: Serge Belongie
As the new President of the ELLIS Board, Serge Belongie brings both deep expertise in computer vision and machine learning and a collaborative spirit shaped by years of international research leadership. At the University of Copenhagen, his work explores fine-grained analysis of multimodal data, self-supervised learning, 2D/3D generative models, and augmented reality.
In this first episode of our Meet the Board series, Serge takes on a rapid-fire round of AI-themed questions — from “Do we need more data or better algorithms?” to “AGI: 5 years or 50 years?” — and shares his personal take on where machine learning is heading. He also points to what he considers a seminal research paper of particular relevance to the AI research community.
