Meet the Board: Samuel Kaski

Samuel Kaski is a leading figure in probabilistic machine learning and human–AI collaboration, serving as the Founding Director of the ELLIS Institute Finland and splitting his time as a machine learning professor between Aalto University and the University of Manchester. He also leads the Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence (FCAI) and the Manchester Centre for AI Fundamentals (AI-FUN).

Sami’s research covers probabilistic modelling and Bayesian inference, collaborative AI for decision making and design, and interdisciplinary applications across health, biology, human–computer interaction, cognitive science, and neuroscience. Much of his work explores virtual simulation-based laboratories, enabling safe and scalable experimentation.
