Meet the Board: Florence d’Alché-Buc
Florence d’Alché-Buc is a Professor at Télécom Paris, Institut Polytechnique de Paris 🇫🇷, where she holds the chair “Data Science and Artificial Intelligence for Digitalised Industry and Services.” Her research focuses on machine learning and artificial intelligence for complex data, with applications across industry, health, and bioinformatics.
Her work centres on understanding and assessing predictive models built from complex and structured data, bridging theoretical advances in machine learning with real-world applications in scientific and industrial domains.
In this episode of Meet the Board, Florence answers a series of rapid-fire questions touching on some of the field’s most pressing debates — including whether we need more data or better algorithms, the balance between predictive power and causal insight, and whether progress in AI will come through major breakthroughs or steady, incremental scaling. She also reflects on the role of foundation models and the importance of diverse benchmarks when evaluating modern AI systems.
