First ELLIS PhD Alumni Event Hosted by ELLIS Unit Tübingen

Throughout the day, ELLIS PhD alumni shared insights into the impressive and diverse career paths they have taken since completing the programme. Additionally, several panel discussions explored topics including the recent development of artificial general intelligence (AGI), the general future of Machine Learning (ML) as a research field, and specifically how the role of ML researchers may evolve in the years ahead.

Beyond the scientific discussions, the event provided an exclusive platform for alumni to reconnect, network, and exchange ideas. It was also an opportunity to celebrate the ELLIS community, which continues to support and shape their career paths.

One theme highlighted by ELLIS PhD alum Luigi Gresele (University of Copenhagen) was the value of the programme's mandatory international exchange. Experiencing research in another country, he noted, helps researchers remain open-minded, embrace different perspectives, and approach challenges collectively. This precisely reflects the goal of the pan-European ELLIS PhD Program.

The event was initiated by Bernhard Schölkopf (Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems & ELLIS Institute Tübingen), Co-director of ELLIS Unit Tübingen and former ELLIS President, and supported by the ELLIS PhD Area.
