EurIPS 2025: Europe Welcomes a New Stage for World-Class AI Research
COPENHAGEN, DENMARK — December 5, 2025 — This week marks a major milestone for the European machine learning community as EurIPS launches for the first time in Copenhagen, offering a European venue for presenting NeurIPS-accepted papers: a development long hoped for by researchers across the continent. The initiative is officially endorsed by NeurIPS, the world’s leading AI/ML conference, and co-developed by the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS), which has played a pivotal role in bringing this idea to life.
For years, the global AI research agenda has been shaped primarily on American soil, a tradition, but one which has also created barriers for participation, particularly within Europe. EurIPS responds to this gap, increasing access, reducing travel challenges, and strengthening Europe’s role in global AI advancement. The overwhelming response to early community polling made one thing clear: researchers were ready.
“EurIPS makes it possible for NeurIPS-accepted research to be shared and discussed widely within Europe — not instead of NeurIPS, but in addition to it. It’s an investment in open exchange, local accessibility, and a stronger, more connected European AI ecosystem,” says Bernhard Schölkopf, Co-Founder of ELLIS, Former ELLIS Board President, and Scientific Director of the ELLIS Institute Tübingen.
This year’s programme brought together researchers, innovators, and industry leaders for three days of keynotes, paper presentations, and poster sessions (December 3–5, 2025), followed by two days of community-organised workshops (December 6–7, 2025). The event opened with collaboration at the ELLIS UnConference on December 2, 2025 which was the official kick-off to EurIPS and a celebration of research across Europe.
The UnConference invited the whole community to take part, offering ELLIS-led workshops and an open poster session with 129 accepted presentations from top venues in 2025. The day was designed to spark exchange, build new connections, and amplify European research on European soil.
“We’ve talked about this dream for years: having a NeurIPS-style gathering in Europe where people can meet, present, and collaborate without needing to cross an ocean,” says Søren Hauberg, Chair of EurIPS and part of the ELLIS UnConference organising team. “EurIPS is a community experiment, built by and for researchers. Now it’s finally happening.”

About ELLIS
ELLIS (European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems) is a pan-European AI network of excellence founded in 2018. It builds upon machine learning as the driving force of modern AI and aims to secure lasting international leadership in AI developed in Europe. By fostering collaboration among top researchers and creating a multi-centric research laboratory, ELLIS ensures that Europe remains at the forefront of cutting-edge AI innovation. The network has grown to include 43 ELLIS Sites at world-class institutions across 16 countries, 16 specialised research programs, and a pan-European PhD/Postdoc program. Through these efforts, ELLIS shapes the future of artificial intelligence in alignment with Europe’s values of openness, collaboration, and societal impact.
