ERC Awards 478 Starting Grants - 11 ELLIS Members Among the Recipients

Eleven Members of ELLIS, representing five countries, are among the 478 early-career researchers across Europe who have been awarded this year’s prestigious ERC Starting Grants, amounting to a total of €761 million.

The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded 478 Starting Grants to outstanding early-career researchers across Europe. These highly competitive grants, provided under the EU’s Horizon Europe programme, amount to a total investment of €761 million. They will support pioneering research in a broad spectrum of disciplines, ranging from the physical sciences and engineering to the life sciences, social sciences, and humanities. With this funding, researchers at the outset of their independent careers will be able to establish their own research agendas, form teams, and pursue bold scientific ideas with transformative potential.

We are delighted to announce that 11 Members and Scholars of ELLIS, representing five different countries, have been selected as ERC Starting Grant recipients. Congratulations to all the awardees on this remarkable achievement!

In the ERC’s official announcement, Ekaterina Zaharieva (European Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation) highlighted the strategic importance of these investments: substantial financial support of this kind, she noted, is crucial for demonstrating Europe’s ability to attract, retain, and nurture world-class scientific talent. These grants help Europe attract and retain top scientific talent, reinforcing its position as a strong competitor in the worldwide research and innovation landscape.
