10 ELLIS Researchers Appointed to the AI Act Scientific Panel
The AI Act Scientific Panel brings together 60 world-leading independent experts on AI who will support the implementation and enforcement of the EU AI Act. The panel advises the European AI Office and national authorities on matters related to general-purpose AI (GPAI) models and systems, including systemic risks, model evaluation methodologies, model classification, and market surveillance activities. The experts are appointed to the panel in a personal capacity for a renewable 24-month term.
The appointment of ten ELLIS-affiliated researchers highlights the strength of the ELLIS network and the scientific caliber of its researchers. With ELLIS Members making up about one-sixth of the panel's 60 experts, this representation underscores the organisation's standing at the forefront of AI research in Europe and beyond.
The strong representation of ELLIS researchers on the panel also demonstrates the real-world impact of the ELLIS community. Beyond advancing frontier AI research, ELLIS researchers are contributing directly to the governance frameworks that will guide the development, deployment, and oversight of advanced AI systems across Europe — ensuring that scientific expertise shapes policy at the highest level.
We extend our huge congratulations to all appointed researchers on this important recognition and responsibility.
