Guidelines for PhD & Postdoc Nominations
ELLIS Fellows, Scholars or Unit Faculty may nominate PhD students or postdocs who are working with them to become ELLIS PhD Students or Postdocs in the Academic, Interdisciplinary or Industry tracks.
Postdocs of any track are currently only recruited via nomination.
If you are a prospective PhD student or have recently started your PhD (less than 6 months ago), you can apply to join the ELLIS PhD Program via the central recruiting process.
Nomination Requirements
Any candidate needs to be already working with an ELLIS Fellow, Scholar or Unit Faculty.
For PhD student and postdoc candidates
Must have published at least one first-author paper in a top-tier venue in machine learning-driven fields.*
The anticipated degree must be from a European institution, unless one of the advisors is a CIFAR Fellow or Canadian AI Chair Holder.
Agreement to fulfill the specific exchange or time-sharing requirements based on the selected track.

Complete & Submit the Nomination
Fill out the nomination form PDF and then email the nomination it for the corresponding track:

Note: Only the ELLIS Faculty advising the candidate can submit the nomination.
Review
Nomination is reviewed. Decision can be expected within 1 month.
Decision
If approved, the PhD student or postdoc is admitted to the ELLIS PhD & Postdoc Program and will be displayed in the list of PhD Students & Postdocs on the ELLIS website.
