Fairness and Discrimination Mitigation in Rankings
Meike Zehlike (Ph.D. Student)
My research interests center around artificial intelligence and its social impact, algorithmic discrimination, fairness and algorithmic exploitation. In my PhD thesis, I develop methods to detect and mitigate discriminatory patterns that make their way into ranking models. Such biased models usually lead to disparities in exposure across different social groups and therefore disadvantage those, who are systematically ranked to lower positions. My methods are designed to debias rankings and therefore ensure equal exposure across groups.
