Senior Research Associate
The School of Computing and Communications at Lancaster University is looking to employ a Senior Research Associate for a period of up to 36 months within the Lancaster Intelligent Robotic and Autonomous Systems (LIRA) Centre. You will be in charge of the research on safe and secure human-centred machine learning including explainable and interpretable deep learning.
We invite applications from enthusiastic individuals with experience in relevant aspects of Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics or Electrical Engineering. You must be able to demonstrate a research background in the area of Machine Learning and AI, and have excellent programming skills (preferably Python). Familiarity with the technologies and tools used in deep learning would be advantageous. We will also value highly your ability to learn rapidly and to adapt to new technologies beyond your current skills and expertise.
Your work will primarily support LIRA’s research on machine learning and AI and more specifically within the ELSA consortium (led by CISPA- Germany) funded by the EC. Your findings will also feed into the ELSA project.
For the position, you should hold a PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline.

This is a full-time post. You will join us on an indefinite contract however, the role remains contingent on external funding which, at this time is due to come to an end on 31st August 2025
