Junior Research Group Leader for Data Science at ScaDS.AI
The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science and ScaDS.AI seek to fill the above position at the earliest opportunity.
Hosted by Leipzig University and TU Dresden, ScaDS.AI (Center for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence) Dresden/Leipzig is one of Germany’s permanent national centres for artificial intelligence. It is financed by the federal government and the Free State of Saxony. The Leipzig sub-centre will be established as a central institution of Leipzig University and, in the medium term, will bring together more than 200 staff members at the Leipzig site alone. In ScaDS.AI, various research topics will be worked on within the framework of a graduate school on the fundamentals and applications of data science and artificial intelligence. In addition, service-oriented solutions are being developed and there is close cooperation with a large number of partner organizations from science and industry. The centre offers an excellent working environment with access to state-of-the-art technologies and an outstanding high-performance computing infrastructure.
The junior research group will consist of a junior research group leader (m/f/d) and one research assistant (m/f/d; salary group 13 TV-L) funded by ScaDS.AI at Leipzig University. In exceptional cases, where the research concept is of outstanding quality, an additional research assistant position may be provided.
ABOUT THE POSITION
- Fixed term in accordance with qualification plan (initially planned for 2 to 3 years, with the possibility of extension for up to 3 years following a positive evaluation)
- 100% of a full-time position
- Planned remuneration: salary group 15 TV-L
DUTIES
- Establishment and management of a junior research group for methodological basic research which strengthens and complements the research focus of ScaDS.AI
- in scalable data management and engineering for AI / data science such as in data cleaning, data integration, knowledge management, high-performance database systems, data streaming, time series, data analysis
- OR
- in artificial intelligence (e.g. in the field of machine learning, computer vision, language models, robotics and explainability)
- Independent and internationally visible research on data science and AI methods with publication of research results at top conferences and in journals of the AI and data science communities
- Scientific support for the development of international excellence
- Exchange of competencies and research results with national AI centres and interdisciplinary cooperation with non-university research partners.
REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in computer science, data science, statistics, mathematics or another relevant field of study
- Doctorate
- Proven research track record in data management and engineering OR in AI and machine learning with publications at top international venues
- Ability to conduct creative, independent research on complex problems and to open up new research areas and knowledge
- Very good knowledge of English (written and spoken).
