ELLIS UnConference 2024 Black Forest
Thanks to funding from the state of Baden-Württemberg, we are able to host the next ELLIS UnConference in Bad Teinach, a nice spa town in the Black Forest. We kindly invite you to the workshop which will take place in the Hotel Therme during December 9-13.
Note that this overlaps with the NeurIPS conference. It is not intended to compete with NeurIPS, but rather as a forum for those who prefer to avoid the long flight and instead want to get together with a smaller group of scientists. We ask all participants to bring along posters or slides of NeurIPS 2024 papers that they co-authored, as well as other recent presentations.
We have secured 50 guest rooms and two meeting rooms. At this point, we are asking interested ELLIS Fellows and Scholars to register for this event. In case there are free slots available, it may be possible to bring along students. If the event is oversubscribed, we may be able to include participants who only join during the day and make their own accommodation arrangements.
We may also be able to accommodate workshops of ELLIS programs.

Q: Can you arrange my travel to and/or from the conference hotel?
A: Please make your own travel arrangements. In some cases, we might be able to fund your travel costs. If you cannot pay for your travel, please contact pr@ellis.eu and send a detailed justification.

Q: How do I get to the conference hotel?
Airport: The closest airport is Stuttgart (airport code STR). Then by car or train to the hotel. A taxi from the airport would take around 40 minutes.
Train & bus: either via Pforzheim or Horb to Bad Teinach-Neubulach train station, bus 636 from the station to stop “Bad Teinach Badstraße”. From there it’s a 3 minute walk to the hotel.
Car:
Motorway A8 Karlsruhe - Stuttgart, exit Pforzheim West, via B 294 (direction Freudenstadt) to Bad Wildbad-Calmbach, then left onto the B 296 (direction Calw) to Oberreichenbach. Turn right towards Bad Teinach. In Bad Teinach, turn right at the church. After approx. 200 metres, turn left into the hotel car park.
Motorway A8, A81 motorway junction Stuttgart, exit Leonberg, via B 295 to Calw. In Calw, first head towards Pforzheim and then follow the signs for Bad Teinach. In Bad Teinach, follow the main road until nearing the end of the town and then turn left into the hotel car park.
Motorway A831, A81 Stuttgart - Bodensee, exit Gärtringen, direction Deckenpfronn, at the roundabout take the B 296 direction Calw, after approx. 1.5 km turn left direction Holzbronn, Bad Teinach. Follow the signs to Bad Teinach. In Bad Teinach follow the main road until nearing the end of the town and then turn left into the hotel car park.
Q: Can my partner join the conference or attend with me?
A: Partners are welcome to travel with you, as long as you pay for their accommodation and catering. We cannot pay for your partner’s expenses. If your partner wants to take part in the conference, please ask them to register as a regular participant.
