Postdoc in Privacy and Machine Learning
2022-07-29 Copenhagen
The Machine Learning Section at the Department of Computer Science (DIKU) at the University of Copenhagen invites applicants for a postdoctoral research position in the domain of privacy-preserving machine learning (ML) for medical applications, initially with a focus on secure multiparty computation, deep learning, and tree-based ML algorithms.
The research will be conducted in collaboration with researchers in cryptography from Aarhus University. The postdoc can spend the time freely at DIKU in Copenhagen and at Aarhus University.
The postdoc’s duties will include research within machine learning and cryptography and participation in the Digital Research Center Denmark (DIREC). The postdoc will work with ELLIS Fellow Prof. Christian Igel and Assistant Prof. Peter Scholl.
The position requires a solid background in cryptography. Knowledge in machine learning and multiparty computation is a plus. Successful candidates must have demonstrated their ability to publish in top-tier venues in machine learning (NeurIPS, ICML, KDD, COLT, CVPR) and/or cryptography (Crypto, Eurocrypt, Asiacrypt, ACM CCS, IEEE S&P, USENIX Security).
Inquiries about the position can be made to Christian Igel.
The position is open from November 1, 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter. The application deadline is September 1.
We want our team to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.
Our groups and research – and what do we offer?
The thriving international research groups in Aarhus and Copenhagen offer a welcoming and friendly environment, with a strong emphasis on openness and collaboration.
The University of Copenhagen is consistently listed as one of the top universities in Europe. Within computer science, it is ranked second in the European Union according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2021. The Machine Learning Section is part of the Department of Computer Science (DIKU), which was founded by Turing award winner Peter Naur. It closely linked to the ELLIS Unit Copenhagen (https://ellis.eu/) and the Pioneer Center for Artificial Intelligence (https://di.ku.dk/ai-centre/). Copenhagen is one of the 10 most livable cities in the world with a rich culture within music, theater and associations. Life for families is made easy by a publicly supported daycare and health care system, dual career opportunities, maternity/parental leave and six weeks of paid annual vacation. International candidates may find information on living and working in Denmark here. Useful information is also available at The International Staff Mobility office (ISM) at the University of Copenhagen (link). ISM offers a variety of services to international researchers coming to and working at the University of Copenhagen.
The Cryptography & Security Group at Aarhus University is located within the Department of Computer Science, which is one of the top research centres in Europe within both theoretical and experimental computer science. It is home to one of the world's largest research groups in cryptography, who conduct world-leading research in a range of topics including secure multi-party computation, headed by Prof. Ivan Damgård.
